Description

White mask of Mahakala also called "Lord of time and transcendent wisdom". Traditional Himalayan mask is made from a single piece of wood and hand painted by Nepalese craftsmen of the Kathmandu Valley in Nepal. Mahakala is typically black. Like all colours are absorbed and dissolved in the black, all names and forms are said to melt into those of Mahakala, symbolizing its global and comprehensive nature. Black can also represent the total absence of colour, and even in that case it signifies the nature of Mahakala as ultimate or absolute reality. Mahakala is almost always represented with a ring of five heads, which represent the transformation of the five kleshas (afflictions) into the five Buddhas' wisdom. The face of Mahakala is depicted with a belligerent attitude, prominent fangs and bulging eyes. Mahakala is the symbol of the force that destroyed the illusion that impedes the attainment of enlightenment.

The silver (metal) used in Nepal is always composed of an amalgam and is most often plated on metal parts. Most of the stores that sell 925 sterling silver products from Nepal are fraudulent!

Likewise, some stones considered semi-precious from Nepal or India are actually stones reconstituted from powder of semi-precious stones, such as turquoise or coral. Nevertheless, they seem to retain the properties of the original stones. In the case where reconstituted stones are used, we always specify it in the specifcation sheeet.
